Hi, Pat
You're right; there are some weird bits, but I don't think it's a Soloist
because of the 2 draw work, 2nd twelve of the middle solo, glissing the IV
down to the iii, fairly regular move in 3rd. Have you heard any first
position A.W.work? I haven't, except for the back up in "My Crime" a la
L.W. in "Hoochie Coochie Man," before the solo (which is in second), and very
tuff. About playing "On the Road Again" in fourth, you can sure get most of
it, but he's definitely playing in second with an altered draw 3; I've heard
both the released and the unreleased versions, and have a video of Canned Heat
on "Playboy After Dark" but not myself being an overblower, can't really
judge about the 6 overblow. I think the throw is slurred on 6 draw from the
unbent iii all the way down microtonally to slightly flat of the ii--do
overblows bend this way? Does anyone know of mics or amps used by A.W.? I
also don't know of any chromatic work, but a real interesting suggestion about
maybe a custom valved one. Do you hear the same tuning on "Bring It On Home"
(Live in Europe)?
Any A.W. stories welcome...Dan

Buy the Book!

I cleaned up my tab for Sonny Boy's Help Me and made it into a short book. There's a Kindle version for 99 cents, and if you buy the paperback you get the Kindle free.

I also write Science Fiction, so you can sample some of my best stories. Also available in Kindle format.

I began collecting data about the microphones used by blue harp players before there was an internet. I began organizing it into JT30.com in the late 1990s. I accumulated more stuff than I remember. This is some of it.
