Subject: dishwasher detergent for cleaning sticky valves
Douglas T. expressed concern that using dishwasher detergent to clean
harmonicas might harm players. I called Proctor and Gamble and asked about
ingestion of small amounts of their Cascade brand detergent, the product in
Q. What would be the health effects of eating/drinking from unrinsed utensils
or playing unrinsed harmonicas?
Q. What would be the health effects of eating a cupful of the powder?
A. Because it contains an emetic, you would vomit, then you would be OK. P &
G doesn't recommend eating it straight!
They are going to send me an Environmental Health & Safety sheet on Cascade.
I'll post anything interesting from it. In the meantime, you can base the
decision to use it or not on its effect on the harmonica, not on the player.
