Subject: Stainless steel reeds

Vern Smith mentions stainless steel reeds and windsavers and asks if anyone
is interested.

I would be very interested to hear his views on what he has created. I have had
a number of 'wind savers' through my hands in the past umpteen years but all
have been disappointing in the long run. (Some better than others) I would
to hear about someone who has cracked the problem.

SS reeds. About twenty years ago I tried stainless reeds and nearly got a
hernia from blowing them. The trouble is that they were from an accordian
it was soon after this that I hit on a different idea which worked and didn't
pursue them.

If you have had some success with that material I would be very interested to
hear about them. How thin did you have to make them and what sort of tone can
you get from them, the ones I made sounded like a horse which has been
approached from the rear at 30 miles an hour with a red hot poker.

I began collecting data about the microphones used by blue harp players before there was an internet. I began organizing it into in the late 1990s. I accumulated more stuff than I remember. This is some of it.
