Subject: Playing Harmonica

Hello folks! Being a new member to Harp-L and being a new player of
the Harp (6 months or so) I need to ask a question (probably asked by 100
others before, so feel free to respond in email rather than clutter up this

Here's the situation:

No matter how hard I try, I can't draw or blow 1 hole. Sometimes by
mistake I can do it, but never on purpose and on a good day never more than
a few times in a row.

How do you do it? I've tried tonging and well that doesn't work too well
with my tongue. I have an extreamly agile tounge and play by basically
rolling it up. I've become very proficient in this manner, but lack some of
the tones (especially bending) that are so important to playing.

Any suggestions?

Buy the Book!

I cleaned up my tab for Sonny Boy's Help Me and made it into a short book. There's a Kindle version for 99 cents, and if you buy the paperback you get the Kindle free.

Playing "Help-Me" In the Style of Sonny Boy Williamson II: A step by step, note for note analysis of some of Sonny Boy's Signature Riffs

I also write Science Fiction, so you can sample some of my best stories. Also available in Kindle format.

I began collecting data about the microphones used by blue harp players before there was an internet. I began organizing it into in the late 1990s. I accumulated more stuff than I remember. This is some of it.
