Subject: CX-12

I just opened my new CX-12 with great anticipation, and boy am I
dissapointed. I had heard the CX-12 referred to as the "diatonic
player's chromatic" for its ease of bending and thought it looked
awfully darned cool in the catalog ads.

But then reality hit:

1) While I like the idea of the one piece mouthpiece and covers, I had
assumed it would be metal, or some suitable replacement. Instead, its
a really cheap feeling plastic. It feels like a ~&^!!! toy in my
mouth, and looks like its poised to crack the first time It gets
really cold and I rattle my harp case.

2) Whoever said that this harp could bend like a diatonic could either
play like Little Walter to begin with, or is a liar. It does bend, but
just like a chromatic. No big long 3 and 4 step vibrato bends here,
unless you're gifted enough to do it already on a 64 or 270 (the
chromos I normally play).

3) The tone is thinner and lighter. The lightweight plastic cover
plates, I suppose, lack the full sound I get from my other chromatics.

The result? I'm mad that I got suckered into paying more for this harp
than I would for a Super 64, which to me is a much finer harp. I feel
like I paid for a pro instrument and got a cheap toy harp instead. I
was hoping I'd get a chromatic I could bend as easily as I bend my
MBs, which would come close to being the ideal chromo for blues work,
and this harp isn't even close.

Of course, I know that somebody likes these things. I know that at
this moment there's someone reading this while they bend a full 6th on
a CX-12 while getting a full, rich tone wondering what the matter is
with me. So lets help each other out.

I can't return this harp. Kevin's has a policy against that. But I'm
out $130 (harp + shipping) for a harp I don't like and don't need. So
make me an offer. No reasonable offer refused. You can save yourself
as few bucks, and let me put the cash towards a harp I'll use and
like. Just send e-mail.
