Guitars
Bigsby for a Les Paul
Hello Fritzer.
Iīve just got my Bigsby tailpiece today. It has a second bar that the
strings will travel under. When placing the piece on top of my LP
Classic, the second bar comes right over the "stop tailpiece". This
Bigsby will defenitely work. The patent number is "No.D-169,120", and
it has the letters "L P" stamped on the back. The other type you
mention, I belive are best fitted on i.e. Gretch guitars (on guitars
were the saddle is a bit higher placed from the body.)
Thereīs a third type of the Bigsby too. In the book "Gibson guitars -
100 years of an American icon - By Walter Carter" page 197, there is a
picture of an SG type guitar with a Bigsby that has not got the
back-plate the other ones has. The Bigsby is fastened with 4 screwes
into the top of the body. This one looks nice too.
I will try to fit my "Les Paul Bigsby" on my SG Junior which is at the
paint shop right now. Yet I donīt know if it will fit (if it donīt I
probably have to buy me an Ephiphone 335 type guitar in order to get it
a home).
Good luck with your Bigsby project.
Best wishes
