Neighborhood Concert: Cephas and Wiggins
Two great guys will be in NY at a Carnegie Hall event on May 20, 2006. If you are in town, plan to stop by at 8pm to see this guitar-harp duo. Phil Wiggins taught me how to bend notes. You will be amazed at his blinding speed and great tone.

Jersey Jam Camp
There are a few more empty seats for Gindick's Jam Camp. From what I've heard, these are lots of fun.

Nice video chops from Steve Krase show Memphis. Too bad it's so short.

Antiques Roadshow/2006 Tour/Online Ticketing
I sent my application in for Antiques Road Show. There is an up and coming Philly show. I'll bring an old Microphone and Amp. Maybe Larry has an old Guitar that will get me on TV.

Del Rey and Steve James
(No harp content) I went down to the Turning Point to see Steve James and Del Ray. I took some pictures of the show. I also have a short Video and an MP3 file.
I first met Steve back at Blues week, Elkins West Virginia in 1994. He taught guitar. I don't play guitar, but I sat in the back of class and just dug his style.
Del Rey was there that year on the last night (the infamous blues dance) and she jamed with everyone. She had a behive hairdo in those days. I still have some very poor quality audio that I taped that night.

Carlos Colina and Straight Up Coming Mar 10
Carlos and my brother, Larry, will be playing at Casa Del Sol in Nyack, NY, this Friday night. This is one of the tightest Blues Harp based bands that you'll ever hear. It's free! So drop by around 9:30. Nyack is the little town where I grew up. Park in the municipal parking off main street. There are about 20 bars now, but you'll be able to find Casa Del Sol easily. The town's not that big.
If you like Little Charlie and the Night Cats with a little William Clarke, Paul Delay and Paul Butterfield thrown in, you'll like these guys.

Blues Harp Instructional MP3s

Blues Harp Instructional MP3s

I've been recording some very simple instructional MP3 files for playing blues harp. I've put them on my voice MP3 site.

Erica put some treasures out on eBay
The property taxes here in NY cleaned out the checking account again. I'm looking for things to sell on eBay. I've found some odds and ends that have been cluttering up the cellar.

An Argonne AR-57 mic. This is a Japanese remake of a GE broadcast mic from the 60s and 70s. It looks good on your desk, but it's not a ribbon mic.

Some odd adapters Amphenol to RCA. I've been using these on mic shells instead of the 2501F. You have to glue them or use a set screw to hold them in place. They are much easier to solder than the 2501F.

An unknown pre-amp type unit with 15 Sprague Black Beauties in it. Two are the sought after kind used in Gibson Tone controls.

4 NOS Magnetic elements
. Low impedance, though so not good for tube amps. Similar to Shure elements - same size, but I am guessing they were made by Electro-Voice.

JT30 page moving into the 21st Century
For a year now, I have been updating Harpamps as a blog and it makes it easy to add new material to the website.
I moved JT30.com to a new web host so that I could start updating things here the same way. It was very difficult to make changes to the old site. Now, hopefully, JT30 will be more current.

History of this page.

In the dawn of the World Wide Web (1994), Keith Graham created the JT30 page. It started out as a home page for modifying JT30 microphones. Eventually the page became a catchall for microphones and amplified harmonica playing. You can see these pages at: The Original JT30 Page

Now I have three pages for harp mics, harp tab and harp amps. I'm going to start another one just for learning harp.

The Cable Channel CNBC had a small article on collecting vintage microphones on 3/28.
Microphone Techs! Here is a nice article out of Circuit Cellar Magazine on the D-104, the older brother of the JT-30. It has a great discussion on crystal mics and how they match to modern equipment. There is a project on how to rig up a little op amp matching circuit.

If you haven't been checking out BassHarps Gig list, then you are missing out on great harp playing. If you are gigging and not on the list then you are probably playing to a half empty house.
There is a Jam Session FAQ on the Internet. Some of it is old and is missing some of the best blues Jams, but it may be useful for finding a local jam. Another more recent jam list is at the National Blues Pages.
