Carlos Colina Harp Video

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

I recorded several videos with my crappy little recorder. Here’s a good one. It’s Carlos Colina with Straight Up at Brown’s Blues Sunday. Linda Geiger has a very cool drum solo.

Brown’s Blues Pictures

Sunday, June 25th, 2006

I had so many pictures from Chris Brown’s Blues Benefit that I had to install a CopperMine album to manage them. The URL is http://www.jt30.com/cmgal.
The music was great. I missed Gary Schwartz and I fell dumb for not heading north earlier. Chip Larrison was there with his Cat Scratch Blues Band, and my little brother was playing bass for Carlos Colina and Straight Up.

I have videos and audio that will take time to edit. The album has the raw pictures (including a few artsy-fartsy ones of the stream in the back.)

Blues Benefit this Sunday

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

My old friend Chris Brown is organizing a Blues concert this Sunday. Chris wrote me:

On Sunday, June 25th, from 1pm-7pm, There is a blue’s benefit brunch at the Savory Grill on rte. 32 in Highland Mills NY (get directions). It is 4.2 miles north of the Woodbury Commons Outlet Center.

All proceeds go to St. Luke’s/Cornwall Hospital cancer ward and are earmarked towards the purchase of a new mammogram machine.

There will be 5 blues bands in a lawn concert. Picnic blankets, or beach chairs are recommended. Ticket donations are suggested at $25, and this includes a buffet put out by Tom Leishman, owner of the “savory grill”.

The bands are as follows:

The Pat “lover-boy” Blues Band
Chip Larison and the Catfight Blues Band
Carlos Colina and the Straight Up Blues Band
Main Squeeze
Gary Swartz and Gil Cruz and the All Star Blues Band

There will also be special guests whose lawyers prevent me from announcing as well as several great raffles. It is family friendly and biker friendly.

Kids are free. For ticket info call Chris Brown at 845-928-9001. Leave a message.

If you live in South NY, North Jersey, West CT, or East PA, you can’t miss this.

Tom’s Mics

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

Tom Ellis has been collecting, restoring and selling vintage harp mics even longer than JT30.com has been online. His original website went away, but I recently discovered that he had a page over at HarmonicaMasterClass.com. Check out the stuff. I only wish there were pictures.

Tom’s Mics: “Tom’s Mics is a highly respected source of vintage microphones for professional harmonica.”
